Firewood can fall into two different categories; hardwood and softwood logs. If it’s consistent long burning that you’re after for places such as fireplaces and log burners, hardwood fire logs are the type for you. Hardwood fire logs have a high density, which makes them burn cleaner and for much longer than softwood firewood.

Softwood fire logs are best used for tasks such as starting fires quickly and easily. However, their higher moisture content makes them burn quickly and with unwanted smoke and sparks. Softwood firewood is also considerably lighter to handle than its hardwood counterparts, which makes it cheaper and easier to work with.

Hardwood firewood is made from trees that grow slowly over time such as Oak, Birch, and Ash which will shed their leaves in the winter, creating thick and dense firewood. Whereas softwood tree species include Larch, Douglas Fir, and Spruce which are coniferous trees that produce needles and grow relatively quickly.
